Comment by Mayor Shiro Izawa of Futaba Town, Fukushima Prefecture
For more than 11 years all residents of the town of Futaba had been forced to evacuate following the earthquake, but at the end of August last year, the evacuation order for the specific reconstruction areas was lifted and we could finally hit the starting line toward recovery. We hope the construction of a conference hotel will provide an opportunity for many people to visit Futaba Town and that they can get a feel for how it is, remaining in the state it was after the disaster, and as it takes on the bold challenge of recovery.
